A bit About Me
I promise I won’t take up too much of your time – after all, time is money! But I believe it’s always nice to know a bit about the person you may potentially work with.
My name’s Alex, and I grew up in Great Wyrley, Staffordshire, until I flew the nest at 26. Now, I live in Hednesford, Staffordshire, with my girlfriend. Fun fact: My mum actually told me I could only move a maximum of 5 miles away from home, so she still hasn’t forgiven me for being 5.4 miles away. Oops.
I had an amazing childhood with my parents and sister, filled with great memories for which I’m forever grateful. They provided me with opportunities that have shaped who I am today.
Creativity has always been a big part of my life, even from a young age. If there was a crayon in sight, it was mine. As I progressed through school, I started practicing my skills, and everything changed when I was introduced to Graphic Design at around 14 or 15, when choosing my GCSEs. I’d get so much joy from diving into projects, and I was hooked. I’d rush home from school, jump straight onto my mum’s ancient Windows PC, and design until dinner time. I always knew I wanted to do something creative – I just couldn’t imagine doing anything else.
I attempted A-Level Graphic Design and Art, but being a 17-year-old lad, I was more interested in gaming, socialising in the common room, and generally just being a Jack The Lad. My grades suffered, and I was asked by the Head of Sixth Form to continue for a second year but only focusing on one subject instead. However, with advice from a close family friend, I decided to switch to college for a more hands-on approach. That decision was a game changer. I hit my stride, my grades excelled, and I fell in love with different mediums and aspects of Graphic Design.
After leaving college, I started an apprenticeship in Digital Marketing to add another string to my bow. This experience opened up my world to many things, and it’s where I developed many of my skills. We all have to start somewhere, right? For the next four years, I worked in Marketing, both in the Travel and Automotive industries. I believe that if you have the right skill set and patience, you can ‘market’ anything, no matter the industry.
In October 2023, I was hit with redundancy. Not ideal, let’s be honest. However, there were talks about potential redundancies back in August 2023, so it was time to grab life by the balls! I took the plunge and started my Freelance Graphic Design business, and it’s slowly but surely growing into something worth nurturing. When I’m not in my home office building my dream, you’ll find me lifting weights or practicing karate. I’ve fallen in love with keeping fit and healthy – there’s nothing better than keeping both your mind and body active.
